Can Long-Distance Relationships Last?
For some couples, long-distance relationships can last years if both people are deeply committed and have a plan for being together eventually. Without a clear endpoint, though, it gets tough; both partners need to know they’re working toward something.
Studies show that long-distance relationships with set goals, like plans to move closer or visit each other regularly, are much more likely to succeed. The key lies in regular check-ins, open communication, and giving each other reasons to look forward to the future. That’s where fun moments together like game nights play a big role.

We’d talk about it throughout the week, planning strategies or joking about funny moments, which kept us connected even on days when we couldn’t call or text as much.
Other Top Picks
- Stardew Valley: This game had a relaxing, almost therapeutic quality to it. We’d unwind after a long day, planting crops and fishing together, and the slower pace allowed for easy conversation.
- Lovify: This quiz game brought out some interesting sides of us. It surprised us how much we still had to learn about each other, and it added a fun twist to our conversations, breaking up the routine.
- Houseparty Mini-Games: Houseparty’s games were a great way to play when we just had a few minutes but still wanted to check in and laugh. It didn’t require much setup, and the games were short, so we could pop in whenever.
Final Thoughts
Long-distance relationships are challenging, no sugar-coating it. There are moments when the distance feels endless, and it’s hard to replicate the closeness of being physically together.
You miss out on those spontaneous moments like a quick hug, shared meals, or even just sitting in comfortable silence. So yes, long-distance relationships can work, but it takes patience, trust, and a commitment to find ways to bridge that physical gap.
That’s where these games come in. They can’t replace physical closeness, but they can bring you closer in other ways. Games give you shared experiences, help build memories, and let you laugh together, which all become a part of your relationship “glue.”
Having a set “game night” or even just playing randomly when you both have some downtime can become something to look forward to, especially during tougher weeks. In fact, the act of finding a game and making time to play it is a small gesture that shows you’re investing in the relationship, and in long-distance, every effort counts.
